Tune into the weight as well as the Unit Cost of print and save cash!

Lots of Print Consumers need to know exactly how much their printed item is going weigh. A slight change in paper weight when printing can make all the difference with the final net weight of the printed item. Savings on print can be made even more dramatic by considering print weight, particularly on large volumes of print.

So whether you are a prolific spender and produce millions of Door drops or are a small business, producing a relatively small Direct Mail campaign, you need to know the final net weight of your printed item. In recent years we have all become familiar with Royal Mail’s decision to introduce the ‘letter’ and ‘large letter formats’ for this very reason. The heavier the item the more it costs. Makes sense eh?

To make life that little bit easier we search the net for the very best calculators that are available to use or download free:

Print Weight Calculator from calculatos.com gets a thumbs up. Its not the usual boring XL spreadsheet with macro buttons that fail to work, but a rather fetching web enabled platform, easy to use and no typing required, so magic for the tablet format.

A few points to note though;

Firstly, its yank so ensure you switch options to metric. Secondly, it calculates a piece of paper rather than the usual printed sides. So if you require an A5 12pp self cover brochure, select 6 pages and not 12 pages. There is also a print run button at the bottom, so click on this if you want to know the final despatch weight for the network delivery requirements.

Downsides:

It’s requires you to calculate if not a self cover format. No good for brochures of leaflets with a heavier printed cover
