Today 11 years ago was a very sad day indeed – you were no longer allowed to have your printed photograph in your passport showing you smiling!!!

However if you child is under 11 years old, they can still smile but must take out their dummie!

It is said that this new rule had a physiological impact on staff that printed the booklet and counseling was offered!

The Identity and Passport Service (IPS) has now taken over the responsibility for the printing of passports  More than 5 million passports are printed a year. The printed booklets which were 100 years old on 1 January 2015 — are printed in a secret location by a printing company in the North of England. One passport rolls out of the factory factory every 2.5 second.
